Ceramic Crowns & Overlays

Advanced Ceramic Restoration for Strong, Natural-Looking Teeth

Ceramic crowns and overlays are highly aesthetic, tooth-coloured restorations used to restore teeth that are damaged, weakened or heavily restored. Using advanced dental ceramics, we can recreate the natural appearance, strength and function of your teeth while providing a durable, long-lasting solution.

Where possible, we favour conservative adhesive restorations such as overlays, allowing us to preserve more of your natural tooth structure.

Ceramic Overlays

An overlay is a conservative alternative to a full crown for teeth that have significant damage or large existing restorations. Rather than covering the entire tooth, the ceramic restoration is carefully designed to replace the missing or weakened areas while preserving as much healthy tooth structure as possible.

Overlays are particularly useful for teeth with:

  • Large or failing fillings
  • Extensive tooth wear
  • Cracks or fractured cusps
  • Significant loss of tooth structure
  • Previous large amalgam restorations

Ceramic Crowns

A ceramic crown covers the entire visible portion of a tooth, providing protection and restoring its shape, strength and appearance. Crowns can be particularly beneficial where a tooth has suffered extensive structural damage and requires comprehensive reinforcement.

The advantages of ceramic restorations

  • Exceptional aesthetics u2013 high-quality ceramics can closely replicate natural enamel, including its translucency and subtle colour variations.
  • Strong and durable u2013 modern ceramics provide excellent strength and can withstand normal chewing forces when appropriately selected and designed.
  • Conservative where possible u2013 overlays can preserve significantly more healthy tooth structure than a traditional full crown.
  • Highly aesthetic and metal-free u2013 ceramic restorations provide a natural-looking alternative to traditional metal-containing restorations.
  • Excellent long-term stability u2013 porcelain and modern dental ceramics are highly resistant to staining and discolouration.
  • Restores function u2013 carefully designed restorations restore the toothu2019s shape, contacts and bite, allowing you to eat comfortably and confidently.

Every case is individually assessed to determine whether an overlay, crown or another treatment option is most appropriate. Our priority is to preserve healthy tooth structure wherever possible while providing a strong, functional and highly aesthetic result.
